How Does an Executive Coaching Engagement Work?

Every coaching journey is uniquely shaped around the leader and the system they operate in.

While no two programmes are the same, here’s how the process usually works:

1. Chemistry Call

A complimentary 30-minute call to see if we’re a good fit. You’ll get a feel for my style and approach; I’ll get a sense of your goals and context. If it’s not the right match, I’ll connect you with a trusted colleague.

2. Contracting

We clarify the outcomes that matter, both personally and organisationally and how coaching can support them. This may involve a three-way conversation with HR or a line manager to align expectations and boundaries, including confidentiality.

3. Coaching Sessions

Sessions run over 6-9 months, typically 6-8 sessions of 60-90 minutes. They’re confidential, reflective, and practical with space for deep personal work. The first session can be supported by a 360 psychometric report (focused on personality, emotional intelligence or leadership). This can help frame those areas of focus that will be of most benefit to you. In between sessions, you’re encouraged to apply insights and stay connected to the work. Additional support is available as needed, in line with the contract.

4. Wrap-Up and Future Planning

Our last session together is dedicated to:

  1. Consolidating the learning
  2. Celebrating the wins
  3. Establishing the best focus areas for your continued professional development

We start with your context: your challenges, ambitions and ways of working. Our focus is on you gaining more clarity and self-awareness to enable you to choose the best path forward. Our coaching sessions and my approach are grounded in the latest research in coaching, neuroscience, systemic thinking and somatic awareness. As our conversation unfolds, I draw on what will be of most use for you in your context. I read the books, so you don’t have to! And provide follow-up resources as appropriate.
Real shifts happen for us, when we get all our intelligences (head, heart, gut) to work together! My approach is holistic. We will focus on your mindset, emotional patterns, leadership presence, and instincts. It is not about faking it until you make it but increasing your ability to be calm under pressure. This enables you to lead with confidence and inspire this in others – becoming the kind of leader others want to follow.
